Empire at Kings

A steep cross-sloping site in West Hollywood presented a challenging context: a boxy, 4-story building on the uphill side, and a much lower scaled building on the downhill. The design of the project split the building into a more vertical element adjacent to its boxy uphill neighbor, and more horizontal, ‘stacked’ elements, separated by a south-facing courtyard, to better relate to its smaller-scaled downhill neighbor. The 25-unit building features on-site art in the form of pierced stainless panels at the entry, situated at the building’s central split.
